Ok, So I went on vaca for once with out the family.
Plan was to go to Chicago for a week which turned into, "Lets go surfing first and then make it back in time to leave with everyone else."
It worked and was a blast
Soo we left Wed, June 25 at 5pm, embarking on a 11 hour drive that ended up making the trip a day longer that what we stayed. Strange concept I know.
We left Marysville with high hopes and anticipation.
This is us leaving. Flutes we know
We didn't even get out of the state before the Perfect Storm could hit us. Everyone on 33 was driving 35mph with blinkers on. Crrraazzy maybe?
And then we finally reached the WV border (which only meant another 9 hours to go!)
We tried making up time by zooming at 118:)
Which didn't last long because we got pulled over...
It was actually strange how it happened. This car got in front of us and started speed checking us. We just thought he was being a dick but it turns out he saw the cop waiting and was trying to help the brothers out.
We all ended up getting pulled over.
Funny thing is we got clocked at 85 and only got a warning for speeding and following a car too close. haha
After a sigh of relief, we continued on our way and made it to the border by night fall.
But before we made it to the border, Garmin made us take these retarded roads that were winding and hilly (which sucked ass because it was night and in the middle of BFE.)
At one of these retarded turns we came upon a hitch hiker standing in the middle of the street in old torn clothes with his arm outstretched and a thumb erected towards the sky. It scared the shit out of us cause we were navigating in pitch black, were calm, and was not expecting anything at all. This scene reminded me of something that would have been in a scary movie or something.
Didn't get a picture cause it happened so quick and we fucking zoomed our scared asses away from him.
Did get this picture of a huge ass stop sign in the next ghost town.
I fell asleep as soon as we hit the highway again so idk what happened for the next two hours.
At 1:30am I woke up cause Drew stopped to get gas and we switched driving. I drove for a whole spankin 1 hour and a half:)
We got to Virginia Beach around 3am. I parked the car in the nearest hotel lot and we got out to scope the beach.
Everyone was out like a light but the streets were lit up and the sound of the ocean sent chills down my spine.
We walked the beach for 10 min before drew decides that surfing now sounds good.
Back at the car Drew waxes his shit.
I'm enjoying the cool sand between my toes and chilling.
There was a guy running a tractor with the sand groomers trying to clean up the beach before next morning. I think he didn't like me sitting there and ran really close to me to bug me. I fucked up his sand so we be even??
Drew excited as a motherfucker running off of 1 hour of sleep.
So after that rant we cruise the city to figure out places. We spot some shops and stuff then head over to 1st St. Jetty.
Drew got more surfing in and I took some photo's.
It was about 7 in the morning and just the start of our vacation but it felt like a lifetime
After that I rented a surfboard and gave a shot at catching some waves... didn't work out and returned the board after a couple hours.
Then we decided to skate and stuff so we cruised the streets some more. We stopped at a bunch of shops and talked to the owners and people working the counter. There was this one cool guy at WRV who helped us and was pretty cool. I ended up getting shoes and Drew got a new deck.
About there we got lost with time and in our minds it went from being a Thursday to a Friday... wtf i know
Anyway we ended up deciding that a hotel was necessary so we skipped around till we found one called The Castle that would accommodate us 18 and 19 year olds. We skated some more and hit up their skate park which was nice but it was too hot out. Rode go karts and stuff. Traveled to the nice jetty and surfed some more. So much shit happened that blurred all together in those three days.
At night we found out that the city came back to life on the weekends.
There were shows and crazy stuff going on all around. We saw some of the stuff and stopped by some of the strip stores. There were these guys that were preaching on the corner. The stuff that was coming out of their mouths would have made a priest blush. This guy in dreads was like, "I am Jesus and I am ashamed of you." We also found a oxygen bar. haha
For $10 you breathe pure oxygen for 15 min and it gives you a natural high. Kinda neat, but it didn't really do much. Ended up just getting super chill.
We eventually made our way to the pier to fish. After about $20 we got some squid and two fishing poles.
Drew had a good start on me at catching fish.
But then I pulled ahead.
But then this guy caught this big mo'fo.
Drew got inked on.
After we caught like 25 fishes collectively (I had caught 17) we decided it was a wrap. After some pissing and returning our poles, we headed back down the strip. We saw these wasted guys attempt to ride their bicycles, Funny shit.
It seemed relatively calm but we soon found ourselves watching a fight and someone threatening a dude with a gun. There was a row of cops just waiting outside this club and cops on horse back everywhere.
Looked crazy.
One cop stopped a guy drinking a slushy and demanded his drink thinking it was alcohol. Turns out it was just slushy and was really funny.
But back to the story about the fight and the gun. Down the road I saw these guys (white guy and black guy) getting in each other's faces. I turned to Drew to joke that a fight was about to start. As soon as I turned back I saw the white guy throw a couple punches and back off. The white guy and his group started backing away but the black guy ran around to his friends asking for a "piece." I would have shit myself if I saw him withdraw a gun and shoot at the other guy. A cop came blazing in and pushed the black guy away and told him to leave now while other cops stopped the white guy and started interrogating him and his friends.
haha so crazy.
We make it back to the hotel in one piece and see some mexicans stuff into a Toyota van. No joke I counted 11 bodies climb in. haha
This marked the end of our trip to VB. We packed up, returned the hotel key and checked out, and set back on the road for home.
On the way (thinking it was Sunday), I checked my phone and it said June 28, Sat........
